The original quality is pretty horrible, in my opinion. unhappy Please make sure it's HIIIIIIIIGH DEFINITION!!!!

Oh, and let me know what you think. This is the first real frag video I've created of which I focused more on editing than content.

I cannot stress enough how people attempt to force religion and beliefs upon others,
it's kinda like how you are telling everyone to use SR.

No offense, I got nothing against you or finding a way to troll you, but maybe people are accustomed to and fond of using FRAPS, no matter how easy/fast SR is to get used to, "use something else" doesn't sound to appealing.

Just my 2 cents :3

Videos are made for people to look at, and they're supposed to look good. If you want to use FRAPS with your crappy computer go ahead, but it looks bad and it has a terrible framerate and makes the video harder to watch.

If you don't mind having ugly videos, ignore me. Just trying to make more videos look better.

The video looked fine(great), but isn't L4D(and youtube) set at max:30 FPS anyway? What's the point of using SR if both FRAPS and SR meet the youtube standards..

Sure, SR would probably(never used/seen it) be better for games like Quake, TF2 and CSS (where you can set a max FPS), but if you make L4D videos, FRAPS is the standard choice

1. Because she was recording at less than 30 FPS

2. It's consistent, doesn't jump around

3. You can raise your video settings, so less jaggies and more high-res textures.

FRAPS doesn't meet any standards if you have a crappy computer.

@Hobo Joe

I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time. I knew about Source Recorder but, I have to admit, I was pretty damn lazy.

Hobo Joe is a very hard and *in-your-face* critic. He's always very straight and to the point.

I've tried to take many points from his advice and I think that sooner or later I'll get my ass away from flash-happy transitions.

It's almost impossible to get %0 complaints out of the guy, but at least you know he's honest and video editors need that the most in my opinion. smiling

That's not what I meant.
I read somewhere (and another place just now) that proper/regular youtube settings average 29.97 - 30.00 FPS ..

Whatever excess contrast you added just made all the footage look really harsh and gross, not to mention work on smoothing because a there we a definitely a few hiccups in your intro footage. The infected/surv play was fine though.

I've seen some videos on YouTube that look like they're running at a higher refresh rate, but I could be wrong.

Eevee's past videos looked smoother than most videos, but I think it depends on the final render and what MBPS you use.

Thanks tongue

I'm not trying to trash people making videos, just trying to tell people how to make them better(Wow that makes me sound like an asshole... lol). But L4D2 videos are generally much less entertaining than the old L4D1 videos. I can't put my finger on why, but there's only like 2 L4D2 videos that I've actually enjoyed.

But yeah, I'm super critical, even to myself. This is why I've never put out a video before. I've assembled some videos before but was never happy with them either technically or artistically, partially because SR in L4D is annoyingly limited. With a lot of extra work I guess I could achieve what I wanted in some limited fashion with FRAPS, but I generally dislike it and it would make the process much longer and more laborious. I guess the real reason is that I'm lazy. tongue

I didn't even comment on the video itself though, lol, just technical aspects. I notice it more than anything else and it bothers me. >_>

@Caps: Recording a video at 30 FPS and encoding a video at 30FPS are two very different things. Yes, youtube is capped at 30(at least it was last time I checked, they may have upped it with some other HD features), but that doesn't mean you should limit your recording to 30 FPS. A video recorded at 60FPS then encoded to 30FPS will look a lot better than a video just straight recorded and uploaded at 30FPS. Not to mention it gives you more flexibility when editing.

fraps should pretty much only be used when it is the last resort to record footage, or when you're trying to record stuff live.

I'm interested in this, myself. You think maybe it's because of the content? In L4D1 there's a much smaller set of skills which are highlighted in videos. DPs, tank plays, quad caps, deadstops/skeets, and quad cap thwarts. In L4D2, there are no definitively good plays like quad caps. It's hard to see any one attack as "great." I mean, you've got death charges, but they're not exactly fun to watch like epic 25 pounces.
Or maybe it's just the tone of the game? L4D1 set a much darker/cooler mood, where this one is bright and comical. Hard to make much hardcore footage out of sunny skies and birght green spit :P

That stuff aside, I liked the video. Might want to work on your capture method (up the framerate or use SR), but otherwise it was pretty tasty. Great plays in the footage, too. smiling

Oh man, in every one's reference to frame rate drops, if you guys were talking about instances like 2:01, 2:06, 2:35, 2:40, etc., I actually tried to slow-mo those parts. UTTER FAIL on my part for working hastily and adding unnecessary touches since it looks like the FPS drops to about 5-10 in those parts.

@ProdigySim

Yeah, the biggest difference is that L4D2 is way too comical in my eyes to make it look hardcore. I'd commend any one's efforts if they made it remotely "dark" because that's a theme I personally love and, so far, only Visceral, Mordecai and Binswees (in some sense, aside from the "bright" look) achieved that.

I remember, in the beginning of L4D2, attacks weren't nearly as coordinated and quad caps weren't done commonly. Getting good as a survivor was always easier, in my opinion, and I think L4D2 is even more catered to strengthening individual survivor skills. I love that though, because getting extremely well-coordinated infected attacks is always satisfying. Well, never mind about the 'always'. 25 points for a 1143 vs. 154 infected damage point spread on a map! OH YEEEEEEEEEEAH.

Upload the championship demo :>
Nice video.

P.S.: The fps are fine imo, btw if you want more frames per second just record with fraps but on slow motion (50%) so you dont loose any frame smiling.
P.S.: Didnt like the excess of contrast/brightness.. I mean, is cool for a short video, but not for a 7 min video... Just my opinion btw.
